Getting there and away
Everton’s Goodison Park is located about 4km north of the center of Liverpool, England. Once an economic engine of England, Liverpool has seen hard times, but is once again on the rise. The city has been named a European Capital of Culture for 2008 and will see a definite rise in visitors. The good news for those hoping to catch an Everton match is that Liverpool is a city that is well connected to the rest of the UK, Europe and North America via rail, bus, and airplane. If you do some advanced planning, you can travel to Liverpool without breaking the bank.
By Air
There are a few options for flying to an Everton match in Liverpool. The city is serviced by the John Lennon International Airport (16km from Goodison Park), which has direct flights from North America, Europe and other cities in the United Kingdom. Airfare to Liverpool will be the cheapest on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursday. Mondays are popular with business travelers and weekends are key dates for holidaymakers wanting the longest trips possible - avoid these dates. A number of low-cost airlines fly to John Lennon International Airport including SkyEurope, Jet2.com, Flybe. Be forewarned that British Airways, the largest carrier in England, does not service Liverpool.
Another option is to fly in to nearby Manchester International Airport, which is the largest airport in the country outside of London. Budget airlines fly to Manchester from London and from destinations throughout Europe, making it one of the more affordable places to fly in England. British Airways does fly to Manchester.
By Train
Liverpool is well serviced by trains. There is even a high speed train now from London. If you are arriving from out of town, you will likely arrive in the city’s main station, Lime Station. It is located in the northeast of the city and is not far from Goodison Park. From the station you can take a bus or a relatively cheap taxi to the stadium. There is no train service directly to Goodison Park. If you are planning on using trains throughout your stay in England, you will want to look into purchasing a BritRail Pass. It can save you time and money.
