Getting There & Away
As mentioned, Bari is a hub for much of the holiday travel in the Puglia region. Additionally, it’s also one of the points from which you can catch a boat headed for Greece (or arrive on a ferry from Greece, of course). So getting to and from Bari by methods other than your own car are actually quite easy, even if you’re coming from quite a long ways away. The city has its own international airport and a well-connected train station along with its busy port and network of highways.
By Air
The Bari International Airport (BRI), also known – believe it or not – as the Karol Wojtyla Airport or the Palese Macchie Airport (after the neighborhood it’s in), is located more or less to the west of the city center. The list of airlines serving Bari isn’t long, but it covers most of the necessary bases. Ryanair, Air Berlin, Air One, Alitalia, Lufthansa, TUIfly, British Airways, easyJet, and Iberia (among others) all fly to Bari. From the airport, there are a couple of bus companies which run regular routes into the city center (a journey of roughly a half-hour), and you could always take a taxi, too. The Bari Airport is close to the highway, as well, if you’re driving a rental car.
By Train
Bari Centrale is the city’s main train station, and as mentioned it’s well-served by trains coming in from all over the country. The nation’s rail company reports Bari sees 300 arrivals and departures every day and 14 million users per year. Still, the station isn’t huge or imposing (especially on the inside) like Rome’s or Milan’s. Once you reach Bari, it’s a major hub for public transportation within the city itself, so you’ll be able to catch a bus either to your hotel or directly to the stadium if you like. It’s bus line #20 that goes from the train station to the stadium.
By Road
From the Bari-Palese Airport, you want to head east/southeast on Viale Europa (also known as SP73). You’ll continue on this road as it curves through the area outside Bari, and then you’ll get on the Tangenziale di Bari (ring road), also known as SS16, at exit 5, heading south. Stay on the Tangenziale (SS16) until exit 10B, when you’ll get off and turn right onto Via Bitritto (also known as SP236 and E843). From Via Bitritto, you’ll turn left onto Strada Torrebella when you see the stadium ahead of you. After making the turn, the stadium will be on your right.
