Getting There & Away
Bergamo is a small city not far from one of Italy’s main air transportation hubs, Milan – but if that weren’t good enough, Bergamo also has its own small airport (which is sometimes even considered Milan’s third airport).
By Air
Bergamo Orio al Serio (BGY) – The airport is located a short 4km from Bergamo’s city center (and about 45km from Milan’s city center, making it roughly the same distance as Malpensa airport from Milan). Although it is significantly smaller than the other airports serving the area, it is popular with many of Europe’s budget airlines and so it can be cheap to fly in and out of Bergamo instead of Milan. You can catch a bus from the airport to Bergamo city and Stadio Atleti Azzurri d’Italia, or hop in a taxi for the 15-minute drive.
If you’re having trouble finding direct flights into Bergamo, you can also try flying into Milan Malpensa (MXP) or Milan Linate (LIN), as the Bergamo city center is only a short one-hour train ride from Milan’s central rail station.
By Train
Bergamo’s main train station gets regular service from nearby Milan, and also some other smaller cities and towns in the area. From points further away you’ll likely have to change trains at a major hub like Florence or Milan. There is a bus stop just outside the train station, so you’ll be able to get to Stadio Atleti Azzurri d’Italia from the train station relatively easily.
By Road
From Orio al Serio Airport, head north on Via Paderno (staying on this road as it turns to the left) and then turn left onto Via Italia. Continue on this road when it turns into Via Borgo Palazzo, and then turn right onto Circonvallazione delle Valli. You’ll then turn slightly left onto Circonvallazione Plorzano. Take the exit from this road which puts you onto a roundabout – you’ll want to take the 3rd exit onto Viale Caio Giulio Cesare. Turn right onto Via del Lazzaretto, and then right again at Piazzale Lodovico Goisis. The stadium will be on your right.
