Getting There & Away
Verona is a relatively major city in the Italian northeast, partly because of the university there and partly because of the whole Romeo & Juliet thing. Even if you don’t care about why it’s an important city, just know that because it’s important you’ve got lots of choices for how to get there – including a couple of nearby airports.
By Air
Verona Airport (VRN) is the airport that’s closest to Verona, at about 12km from the city. It’s also sometimes called Valerio Catullo Airport. Both commercial and charter airlines fly to this airport, although the charters tend to only operate during the summers. There are buses which will get you from the airport into the city center, or you can take a taxi. The bus will cost about €4 to the city center, and a taxi ride will run you about €20.
D’Annunzio Airport (VBS), sometimes also called Verona Brescia Airport, is about 50km outside the city and is popular with many of Europe’s budget airlines. This airport is much closer to Brescia, but if you’re looking at Ryanair’s map this is the airport they mean when they say “Verona.” There are bus lines which connect this airport to Verona’s city center – the bus will cost about €16 and take just under an hour. Alternately, you can also get a regular local bus into Brescia’s city center and then take a train to Verona.
By Train
Verona’s Porta Nuova train station has regular service from major cities in Italy, and some points outside the country as well. On the fastest train options, it’s about 1.5 hours from Milan and 1.25 hours from Venice.
By Road
From Valerio Catullo Verona Airport, head north on Via Dossobuono and turn right on Via dall’Artigianato/SP26a. You’ll cross over the A4 and the road then becomes Via Verona. Follow signs for the A22 & SR62 for Brennero/Modena/Verona and merge onto the SR62 heading north. Take the exit toward Verona/S.Lucia/S.Massimo and merge onto Autostrada Urbana. Follow this road as it curves around, and take the exit onto Via dello Sport. You will eventually see the stadium on your right, and there are parking lots along Via dello Sport both before and after the stadium.
