Getting There & Away
Palermo is the capital of Sicily, the island just off the toe of Italy’s boot, and even though Sicily doesn’t get the number of tourists every year that (for instance) Rome or Venice do, it’s a big city with an international airport, so it’s easy to get there from the Italian mainland or elsewhere in Europe, as well as some cities outside Europe.

By Air
Palermo International Airport (PMO), sometimes called Falcone-Borsellino Airport or Punta Raisi Airport, is about 35km to the West of Palermo’s city center. It’s one of Italy’s busiest airports, and some of the airlines which fly to Palermo regularly are Alitalia, Air One, easyJet, Eurofly, Ryanair, TUIfly, and Transavia. You can either catch a train or a bus into the city center from the airport – the train runs 1-2 times an hour and the cost is about €8; the shuttle buses run every half hour and the cost is about €5.

By Ferry
From the Italian mainland, you’ll need to catch a ferry to get to Palermo. There are regular ferries from the ports of Genoa, Civitavecchia, Naples, and Cagliari (on the island of Sardinia). For a unique experience, take the train from Rome or Naples all the way to Palermo via the train ferry which crosses the Messina straits.

By Road
From the Piazza Pretoria in central Palermo, head east until you hit Via Roma – turn left on Via Roma. Turn right on Via Camillo Benso Conte di Cavour, and then at the roundabout turn left onto Piazza 13 Vittime which becomes Via Francesco Crispi. Stay on this road (also called SS113), which will curve slightly right and then left to become Via Piano dell’Ucciardone. At the Y, you’ll take the right fork onto Piazza Generale Antonio Cascino, which then takes a jog to the right to become Via Montepellegrino. Stay on this road as it becomes Via Isaac Rabin; it will turn to the right and go around a roundabout – you’ll take the 3rd exit onto Via Martin Luther King. At the next roundabout, take the 1st exit onto Via Imperatore Federico. Turn right onto Piazza Leoni, which curves slightly right to become Viale del Fante. Continue on this road and you’ll see the stadium on your right.
