Getting There & Away
Reggio Calabria is the capital city of the Reggio Calabria province; the city is officially known as Reggio di Calabria, but both the province and the city often go by the same name. (It’s more than a little confusing, yes.) The city of Reggio Calabria is the largest in the region, and there are plenty of amazing beaches and other sights in the area – which means that it’s pretty easy to get there and back.
By Air
Reggio Calabria Airport (REG), also known as Tito Minniti Airport, is about 4km from the city center. While this is a big city in the region, it’s a fairly small airport – meaning it’s not served by a long list of airlines. You can get there on Alitalia, Air Malta, Air One, Air Italy, and MyAir. Getting into the city from the airport is easy via the ATAM buses – they run from the airport to the central Reggio Calabria train station and also the city’s harbor area. A taxi ride from the airport to the train station, on the other hand, will cost you about €25.
By Train
There are two train stations in Reggio Calabria – the main station by the harbor at the southern end of town, and one at the Lido beach. If you’re coming from points further north than Rome, you’re probably looking at an overnight train (or at least a long day’s ride), and perhaps even a change of trains in a major hub city like Rome or Naples. Once you get to Reggio Calabria, though, it’s easy – the stadium is right next to the railroad tracks and very near the train station.
By Road
From the Piazza Castello in central Reggio Calabria, head southeast on Via Diomede Marvasi, then turn right on Via Giannangelo Spagnolio, and then diagonally left onto Via Nicolo da Reggio. When you come to a T, you’ll turn right onto Via Argine Destro Calopinace, which is a major road. Turn left onto Viale Calabria. You’ll eventually turn right at Via Botteghelle, turn right again and then a quick left to stay on Via Botteghelle. This road will lead you right to the stadium.
