Getting There & Away
Udine is the capital of the Udine province in the Friuli-Venezia-Giulia region in northeastern Italy, but it’s not a very popular tourist destination. The city has a train station, which makes it accessible from basically anywhere else in Europe, but the nearest airport is in Trieste.
By Air
Friuli Venezia Giulia Airport (TRS) is the region’s primary airport and is located just outside Trieste (it’s also called the Trieste Airport, in fact). It’s a big international airport, though the list of airlines serving it isn’t as long as you might expect. Some of the airlines which fly to and from Trieste are Air France, Air One, Alitalia, Lufthansa, Ryanair, and Sky Europe. You can get a bus (coach #51) from the Trieste airport into Udine for around €4.
Venice Marco Polo Airport (VCE) is another alternative; it’s a larger international airport than Trieste, so you may find more options for international flights to Venice. Some of the airlines flying to and from Venice are Aer Lingus, Air France, Air One, Alitalia, bmi, British Airways, Delta Air Lines, Emirates, Eurofly, Iberia, KLM, Lufthansa, Sterling Airlines, US Airways, TUIfly, and Vueling. From the Venice airport, the best thing to do would be to get a bus (#15) to the Venice Mestre train station and then take the train to Udine.
By Train
Udine’s train station is south of the city center. The city is well-connected to other Italian cities as well as other cities in Europe, although because it’s not a major hub you’ll probably have to change trains somewhere along the way if you’re coming from anywhere but a nearby city. Because the stadium is actually located in an area northwest of Udine called Rizzi, you’ll need to catch a bus (#2) from the train station to get there.
By Road
From Piazza Primo Maggio in the city center, head north on Viale della Vittoria, through the Parco della Rimembranza and Piazzale Osoppo. Turn left onto Viale San Daniele, and then at the roundabout take the 1st exit onto Piazzale Diacono Paolo. Continue on this road when it becomes Via Martignacco. At the Y, take the right fork onto Via del Cotonificio, then turn left onto Viale Cadore and right again to get back onto Via Martignacco (the detour is to avoid one-way streets). This road is also called SS464. Continue on this road for a little over a kilometer, and then turn right onto Via Monza. When that road ends, turn left onto Via Lodi, which curves to the left and becomes Viale dello Sport. This road then curves again to the left and becomes Viale Agostino ed Angelo Candolini. You’ll soon see parking lots for the stadium on your right, and then the stadium itself.
